ROVE R2-4K Dashcam

 


Our used 2019 Nissan LEAF SV 40kWh gets a new dash camera + micro-SD memory card! Important to implement given the way people sometimes drive nearby. I like to collect video imaging evidence of what I am seeing while driving forward to combine with my car insurance as forms of legal protection from poorly skilled, drunk, tired, or distracted drivers. At times I might even download the video files & upload them to my YouTube channel as "Bad Drivers / Seattle, Wa, USA" or similar title. 

The ROVE branded slightly premium priced trans flash card with 256GB capacity was included in the Amazon Prime order. I like this because of the design that provides a wide temperature range from freezing cold to super hot with an operating temperature range from -22°F (-30°C) to 176°F (80°C)

Very thoughtful & well thought out software & user interface, this seems like a well polished A+ grade dash cam solution. SONY IMX335 + NT96660 makes for clear imaging even in low light conditions. 

F1.8 aperture lens with 150° A+ grade 6 element coated glass lenses + motion detection, parking mode, G-sensor, loop recording, emergency video lock, time-lapse video, slow-mo video, and supports up to 521GB class 10 - U3 speed micro SD or trans flash cards & they recommend their ROVE branded version that tested well with these units. 

Wifi-allows smartphones to download clips directly, so you can upload them to YouTube easily or share with your family & friends on social media. It can track your route with built-in GPS & can be flashed with a free firmware upgrade. 


2019 Technology Sony Starvis IMX335 image sensor used in this dash cam also used for security applications and select industrial and factory automation type applications. 

The 1/2.8" imager offers a resolution of 5 megapixels at a pixel size of 2 µm. 

This sensor has a backside illuminated pixel architecture providing high sensitivity with frame rates of up to 60 frames per second through a MIPI interface, which provides excellent image quality and speed needed for embedded vision integration.

The IMX335 CMOS sensor has a 6.52 mm diagonal, providing 5-mp resolution with a 2592 (H) x 1944 (V) effective image size while keeping the power consumption low. 

The Sony Starvis backside illuminated pixel technology used on this chip allows for high sensitivity in the visible light and near infrared spectrums, making it suitable for security and surveillance applications. 

Features like a dynamic range up to 72 dB, advanced HDR functions and digital overlap HDR further improve the image quality and contrast behavior allowing for more detailed image analysis. These features when combined with the low dark current performance and no smear further improve its performance in applications looking at both bright and dark regions at once. IMX335 is available in both monochrome and color versions. 

The IMX335 features a small 7.3 mm (H) x 7.1 mm (V) CSP package and provides MIPI CSI-2 serial data output for easy integration in embedded vision projects, with mass production starting in Q1/2019.
