Our 1000W microwave vs our 1000W electric kettle, heating water speed tested. The kettle faster & more efficient.
Method & Results
I did a crude timing test using my iPhone SE2 with the bigstopwatch app and 1000 microwave oven with a 2 cup (473 ml) Pyrex measuring cup with 68 deg. F (20 deg. C) water (H20) and in 2 min 38 seconds the microwave oven heated the water to 176 deg F.
Using my stainless-steel inside & white plastic outside COSORI electric kettle, the same 1000 watts for 2 min 28 sec raised the water temp to 212 F (100 deg. C). I was reading an article about why Americans do not buy electric tea kettles that are popular or nearly ubiquitous in British households, where the author claimed that Edison & Tesla's electric war between DC and AC power infrastructure in America fueled the cultural changes needed to make electric tea kettles less popular in American households.
Our History with Electric Kettles
Meg & I have operated several counter-top electric plug-in 120v 8amp electric water heating kettles until their end of life of EOL stage when they failed because of the failing power connector interface between the kettle body and the power transfer base that plugs into the wall power outlet. Usually these electrically conductive contacts failed from mechanical fatigue & wear produced slowly & progressively each time the water heating kettle lowered onto its power connector base. This, along with the kettle on-off switch or controller, seems to be a common failure point for many kettle models, based on Amazon.com review research.

Our COSORI electric kettle seems to be working great after 2 years of extensive daily use, so I guess time will tell how long it will last. Our previous ceramic model suffered from a leaking gasket when allowed water to corrode the logic controller as that unit had programmable boiling controls for different heating temperature settings etc. The one before that was gifted to us by Meg's sister and was 10 years old or more I eventually its base connector failed, even though I repaired it with solder, little bits of copper & tin & nickel strips cut precisely. I rebuilt the electrical contacts perhaps 10 times before "throwing in the towel, and agreeing to get a "new" one, the leaky ceramic one, from Amazon.com

Why Americans Don't Buy Electric Kettles

Notice no affiliate link, just my results and information. Thats the spirit of my blog. I am here to share my perspective & what I think about! If you want to buy a water heating apparatus for brewing tea or coffee at home, like Meg & I do using loose leaf tea & herbal tea, loose & in tea bags, or freshly ground in an electric coffee grinder, coffee beans, in our Aeropress with its aftermarket stainless steel reusable filter screen or brown "natural" fiber filter papers; the COSORI unit seems to make good sense. It features a lighted switch and turns itself off once the water is boiling. If we want lower temperature water, I brew my ground coffee 12-24 grams in the Aeropress with water at 174.3 deg. F (70 deg. C), to maintain more of the aroma, flavors & smells of the coffee beans in the brewed black coffee, to which I add a dash of whole milk or heavy cream, typically, though sometimes I drink it black, and absolutely never add sugar.
