Honda Quality Slipping Up

Known for having exceptional customer service, quality portable generators, the nicest lawnmowers, exceptional motorcycles, Honda collection hall in the Japan super cool with ASIMO, so many innovations like the Clarity Fuel Cell electric vehicle, & really dope cars like the legendary S2000, how has Honda botched some of their recent vehicles.

I purchased a Honda CRz Hybrid 6sp Manual Transmission Hybrid in 2015 & drove it for a few years, but it was a glitchy model where the dashboard would cut out while driving, causing me too have to push the clutch in & restart the car while driving it, & the dealer could not find any issues with it. I ended up trading it in on a 2016 Nissan LEAF in 2018, then traded that LEAF for our 2010 Prius III in Feb 2020. Let examine examples with lots of data, since that Honda CRZ kind of an odd ball low volume example.

Popular Honda CRV competes directly against Toyota Rav4, but the 2017 CRV known for electrical problems, fuel injectors that jam or fail, & power steering that gives out or malfunctions while driving it, scaring the ghost out of drivers who suddenly lost power steering while turning in tight neighbor hilly corners, where the steering became suddenly really heavy & hard to turn, causing under steering that send the vehicle into the oncoming lane, in most cases no accidents thankfully.

A bigger SUV the Honda Pilot competes against the 4Runner, but the 2016 Honda Pilot notorious for having engine & transmission problems & like my glitchy CRZ, they are also known for weird electrical problems. To be fair, electrical issues are more likely lately not just because of OBDII, but also because modern vehicles like the 2025 Prius 5th gen have more than 130 computer chip modules & miles of wiring in the vehicle wiring harness, so many more points of electrical failures like shorts or connections loosening, or corrosion in pin connector harnesses not sealed from moisture properly with a double rubber gasket the way Toyota Denso do IP76 seal electrical connectors on Toyota/ Lexus vehicles by comparison.

2018 Honda Accord plagued with head gasket failures, fuel system problems, this on top of the 1.5L Earth Dreams turbo engine with valve seats that coke up easily early & piston blow by oil dilution problems. As the world's largest motorcycle maker, & maker of GX100 & GX200 engines of superior quality, it's hard to imagine the maker of the Honda Super Cub making unreliable automobiles, when they really nailed every model with legendary long-life reliability in the 1990's.

Now while I regularly toot Toyota's horn for being the best automakers, they have also sold dodgy unreliable models over the years, such as Tacoma that have frame rails that rust out fast causing the nickname Taco Tacoma for specific model years 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2016, & 2019. Best model years of Tacoma on the other hand that are very reliable consist of 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023. We are still collecting real world data for Tacoma MY2024 & MY2025. This article is about Honda problems, not bashing Toyota

Did you hear that Honda is merging with Nissan, what an abortion, Nissan is terrible, mismanaged for decades of bordering on bankruptcy. If Toyota has good QA:QC then Nissan does not know anything about quality analysis or quality control by comparison. Surely this would be like DeWalt merging with Black & Decker where the resulting outcome was cheaper lower quality DeWalt tools with plastic gears & brushed motors, that weight less & cost less but are less reliable.

Though DeWalt does still sell pro tools with metal gearing & brushless motors & quality batteries that compete with Milwaukee with professional that use tools daily at work, at construction sites for example. I am thinking of old school 18 volt DeWald NiCD tool batteries that last 20+ years of daily heavy use & still work, even if repeated dropped, stepped on, driven over, bashed, dented, they just keep going & going, like those lithium iron- disulfide Energizer AA or LR6 batteries. I think of tools with cars because car mechanics use tools to work on cars daily, especially impact drivers & drill drivers, & battery electric socket drivers, & battery electric torque drivers, like the Bosche Tools used at a BMW production facility in Germany, say GommeBlog YouTube video http://youtu.be/T9OApsY_dgg?si=YkvGIs6xzCqumH0L
