Better fuel economy and lower emissions, the idea of hybrid electric vehicle to improve all the best of ICE technology with added benefits of electric motors and energy storage or e-boost possible with lithium-ion batteries or super-capacitors or any combination thereof.
HEV platforms enable better acceleration, brake energy recovery, more torque earlier for enhanced acceleration, better fuel economy and lower emissions that comply with increasing stringent government emissions control laws like Euro 6 vs Euro 5 or CAFE or the Clean Air Law compliant US emissions controls requirement of automakers.
Say Toyota Prius, 20 years of reliable hybrid electric vehicles from big daddy reliable automaker Toyota of Japan :) One the main reasons I like Japan.
Now Kawasaki releasing a strong hybrid motorcycle in Japan. It combines electric motors and a traction battery pack like a smaller electric motorcycle battery pack, with the ICE gasoline engine, to get the best of both, as the electric motor and battery make instant torque to help acceleration early in the RPM range when the ICE gasoline engine not in its powerband range yet, for enhanced off the line acceleration, while brake energy regeneration enables slowing down or cruising to recharge the battery pack with energy normally wasted on brake pads scraping away to make friction to slow the brake rotor. This is exactly the same kind of technology that Toyota uses in HSD or hybrid synergy drive.
While Japan offers vehicle tax incentives that reduce the cost of the Hybrid Kawasaki, these sales discounts are not available in the USA where seasonal use of motorcycles tends to be dominated by ICE or gasoline powered models that sit idle unused in garages for cold parts of autumn, during the winter, and even in the wet colder part of spring, such that pleasure craft powersports vehicles tend to be most utilized during dry, or warmer or sunny warm weather with bright sun for the best visibility, best tracking, best tire grip, better road conditions for summer tires, better warm pavement to enhance traction of the tires, and better warm air that does not fog up the riders helmet, or cause chilling of their neck or hands or legs, though heated grips, grip guars, a neck wrap, warm gear, heated gloves, heated jacket, heated pants, even heated boots + special winter tires can make riding all year possible for dedicate motorsports zealots that eschew the comforts of cars or automobiles for the sake of riding their motorcycles in snow, rain, sleet, hail, cold winter all seasonal conditions like my Russian friend Julia, who has a big collection of motorcycles in the shop building she lives out of in Kent, Washington USA. She tells me that I am a wimp for not having a winter bike setup with the required gear and for "pus'ing" out to avoid riding in rain or cold weather, taking my comfortable 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid as a commuter vehicle on cold and cold and wet or snowy days.
Battery electric motorcycles are trending, but lithium ion sitting fading for 8 months until the nice weather means the range of the battery pack fades every year, getting worse with time. In an ICE motorcycle you can fill with ethanol free fuel (Pure-Gas app finds it, android or iOS) then add Fuel Stabilizer to the motorcycle fueling tank just filled with ethanol free gasoline.
Red Fuel Stabil Stabilizer extends the shelf life of gasoline, especially common hygroscopic E10 unleaded gasoline from 2 months to 2 years. This is extremely important in carburetor engines, small engines, power equipment engines, where atmospheric air can dry out the fuel in the carb bowl, clocking the float or jet hole with varnish or oxidized gasoline residue. I also recommend taking the motorcycle out on a dry non rainy day a few times per winter, go for a warm gear ride for 30 minutes to move the tires, move the gasoline though the fuel lines and fuel pump and fuel filter, then top fill the fuel tank with more ethanol free stabilized gasoline.
Gasoline without fuel stabilizer oxidizes like rancid cooking oil, forming white alkane waxy threads in gas cans stored for longer than 6 months without being sealed properly. Newer sealed safety button gas can reduce fuel oxidation, since you can only dispense built up pressure or fuel by pressing the release button that allows the vapors and fuel to exit the filler stem into the air or fuel tank.
How about our 2020 exceptional Yamaha MT03 made in West Java, Indonesia by Yamaha, with an O2 sensor & catalytic converter low emission exhaust system that only weighs 18.5lbs. I took the exhaust system off and held it while weighing myself holding the exhaust, then without, subtracting to derive the mass difference. I then added ceramic exhaust wrap around the dual header pipes down to the Y area where the meet up prior to the 02-sensor segment before the catalytic converter. I sprayed the white ceramic wrap (looks like fiberglass) with special black exhaust paint and used a propane torch to blow hot air through the pipes to help dry out the paint faster. Several thick coats of this paint were added and then superheated by heating the exhaust header red hot with the torch, holding the pipe with leather smelting gloves, metal heat resistant clamps, on top of paver bricks in the driveway. I wrapped the exhaust wrap with stainless steel pipe straps included with the kit to keep everything snug and in-place. Then mounted the modified exhaust and test rode it to check and used our FLIR dongle smartphone attachment to IR imaging confirm that the wrapped exhaust reduces heat from the header from soaking the front radiator in IR, improving the warmup rate of the catalytic converter and O2 sensor to get the machine in clean burning modes faster after cold startup. The burn off of the exhaust pain over the next 1000 miles of operation gave a strange, burned popcorn smell, but no long does that anymore. Prolonger highway higher RPM super-heated the header burning off the remainder of the VOC's during a recent ~800 mile long road trip, or 369 mi each way. I averaged 56 MPG on that trip, similar to what the dash computer was claiming.
Macro-and-micro economic declines in the USA from sky high housing costs, higher food costs, higher fuel costs given the sprawling nature of large area US cities that make privately owned motor vehicles the only time efficient practical way around, plus seasonal weather that makes motorcycle more popular to ride during the summer and many other factors like income inequality and currency inflation of the USD or dollar caused by quantum easier by the Federal Reserve banking system. A system that rewards the CEO of a large company with millions in annual income while the entry level employee gets paid less than 40K per year, a huge disparity that was much less in the 1950s for example. This means many collectables, optional pleasure vehicles, non-essential goods are selling less well now than they did in the past, though such did have huge gaps or declines in sales during Covid 19 and during the 2008 mortgage market home sup-prime loans sold as mortgage backed AAA rated derivative investments to hedge funds and investors all around the world, that ended up damaging the entire global economy because of reckless speculative mortgage market betting by Bear Sterns and similar AIG that ended up going bankrupt such that their executives got golden parashoot bailouts to retire as the US general public got sold out to the highest bidders.
Speaking of parashoots, Meg & I went sky diving twice in a row and Skydiving Snohomish at Harvey Airfield yesterday and had an absolute blast. That cost us $1000 including lunch and dinner nearby and travel to and from Issaquah where we live. Going skydiving was on both of our bucket lists, but we thought it would be radically more expensive. The first time was so intense, we decided to embrace their discounts for a second jump the same day.
Vlad the most senior instructor said that in more than 20 years of doing tandem jumps with members of the general public, he never saw a married couple go twice in a row :) He also gave me an A+ on the second certificate for doing a quad roll, twisting, acrobatic, rollercoaster style fall of epic experience, to then practicing steering steel angle, stalling, going backwards, and landing. Vladimir helped me to learn the art of skydiving with excellent instructions clear and kindly and it was the coolest experience of my entire life! Meg had an absolute blast too. Special thanks to Alex the Pilot, Chris the Instructor, Ryan the Instructor, and Cody the Instructor who all help make our experience fantastic. Kelly was awesome to talk with.
I connected with Vladimir on a level as if we had known each other our whole lives, even having the same birthday, having read about Moldova where he came to the US from in the year 2000, just like Stanely my other friend who brough his daughters Roxanna and Leika (my dental hygienist) to the US from Moldova because there was more opportunities in the USA for his daughters, and Vlad did the same for his daughters benefit, and related to this factual story very positively.
It's amazing how we all have so much in common or see eye to eye on so many things. I love skydiving and hope to do it again and wish it was more affordable and will seek to find a less expensive way to jump out of airplanes with a parashoot for fun and enjoyment. Its like being super high on drugs without the cost or side effects of such, the brain getting high from the intense experiences.
They took away monetization of my blog because of what I published previously that violated community guidelines but won't tell me which postings or what I said that was wrong. Then again I can write whatever I want anyway I want with freedom of speech without being beholden to any specific rules other than being decent and polite or friendly, wishing the best for other people, animals and nature as a loving person who practices showing others loving kindness any time I am fortunate enough to interact with another person, animals or even ecosystem and nature while hiking for fitness and mental emotional health, but also to improve metabolic health along with interval fasting that helped me solve or undo type 2 diabetes, such that I no longer have Type 2 diabetes. I skip breakfast and try to eat everything during the day between 12 noon and 7 pm, to interval fast daily. Not a hard rule, I ate breakfast today, but a template for eating window to prevent Alzheimer's or metabolic disease, to keep my blood pressure lower, and to focus on writing and sharing my ideas and experiences on here so other people can read and enjoy or possible relate to what I write :)
