Applied Science & Technology

After reviewing most available technologies in the world, you might come to the same conclusion as me. It does not make sense why so many problems with pollution, land & water & ecosystem degradation, crime & corruption & other crony capitalism collusion & insourcing & outsources & currency manipulation & trade manipulation, slavery, bigotry, ignorance & confusion are so common & trending in the world today.

Many people around the world live as if we have made no progress with science & technology for the last several hundred years. No electricity, no running water, no air conditioning or fridges or microwave ovens or computers, though even the poorest people in developing countries tend to have an entry level android smartphone connected to a SIM card 4G LTE wireless networks & get their news, weather, & other information, including using the phone as a payment method & to receive payments for work or services, to exchange monetary value with the smartphone electronically transferring funds between parties, a regular method where debit & credit cards & cash are not reliable or common or easily accessible, where banks are corrupt with the local corrupt government charging crazy high fees or outright stealing money from accounts.

Only 1 in 7 people alive owns a car & the head of manufacturing at GM in China said something along the lines of "We will run out of materials to make new cars before we will run out of Chinese car buyers who want to buy a new car" referencing our inability to mine & produce materials on the scale needed to give 5 billion people a new car, let along to create the kind of wealth & energy prosperity needed to energize that many vehicles with fuel or batteries & electric motors, turbines, rotary engine generators, hybrid electric drivetrains, synergistic mixing of engines with electric motor generators & battery energy storage systems, brake energy recover system, start stop systems, variable compression, variable valve timing, variable ignition, variable stratified injection, HCCI, new variants of engines, new engine technology, or other means, like downloading quantum vacuum fluctuation from spacetime using ZPE energy capture to energize the motor laminations, winding, magnetic field with quantum dynamic electrical potential at the bleeding edge of physics today.

Climate change means there are broad calls worldwide from the general public, local government, nation states, mega transnational corporations & even the oil sector & petroleum sector calling for broad decarbonization of transpiration, the development of 2nd & 3rd generation biofuels like bio-gasoline, GTL waste dump gas to fuels conversion, biomass gasification, carbon capture conversion fuels & other advance photo chemical fuels made with sunlight energize chemical reactions in transparent solar concentrators with frequency converting materials that convert the suns broad spectrum of light near Earth surface into the IR or UV energy needed to energize the required chemical reactions. There are dozens of emerging ways to store electrical energy, none cheap enough to entice grid operators in the USA or Europe with gross adjusted costs per installed kWh too high for feasible integration on a functionally worth wide or meaningful scale, other than some peak buffer capacitor arrays & similar in some substations, which they have been doing for voltage stabilization for many decades.

Grid electricity & rooftop solar energy systems + batteries like the Tesla Powerwall or something less premium or more affordable, its the electricity that makes the difference. In the past, I sold Duracell branded DEKA 8D batteries to African traders who put them in containers & ship them to Africa, where they sell them to customers who mix the ~200 amp hour 12vdc batteries with a few hundred watts improvised mounted solar photovoltaic panels or solar panels.

As the sun shines on these panels, electrons are knocked free from the dope silicon wafers as silver wires capture the electrons to move them to external circuits to power loads, like running a microwave, TV, laptop, charging a cell phone or smartwatch or tablet computer, to run a vacuum cleaner or charge a battery electric vacuum, & similar domestic energy uses to boil water or cook without burning wood or coal, over electric stoves, induction stoves, small resistive cheap coil stoves, all running on 220vac 50hz, as that's more common outside of America, where 120vac & 60hz the main domestic power outlet standard on a 15 amp breaker from one of the two input power buss bars in the homes utility panels, which can be combined to make 240vac to power ovens or dryers & other high water electric water heaters or electric instant hot water heaters with on demand water heating for hot showers, dishwashers, clothes washing machines hot loads & similar hot dish rinsing or heated water for cooking, etc, the ways that people typically use hot water at home one of the largest users of energy, by that propane or natural gas water heating or electrical water heating. It has to do with the high specific heat capacity of water due to waters hydrogen bonding, without which water would boil at much lower temperatures & the water cycle on Earth would not work the way it does naturally.

Radical income inequality one of the reasons we do not see more technologies diffused into real world applications to make life better for everyone & to reduce pollution, enabling more human activity with less negative impact on ecosystems & nature, without harming other animals, people, or other wildlife with air pollutants from ignorant greedy processes when eco safe alternatives have been long available for a small premium in operating costs, which is why the greed the problem. The idea that there are often less polluting, non toxic & safer alternatives available, but the cheapest option the dirty toxic one, in dry cleaning for example, there are traditional dangerous dry cleaning chemicals that work well but are bad for the health of the people working with these machines & are potent pollutants if discharged untreated into ecosystems, rivers, lands, lakes, streams, creeks, soil or air. Anytime halogens from the periodic table of elements are chemically combines with hydrocarbons or mixtures of hydrogen & carbon, these halogenated hydrocarbons are excellent solvents & have very high performance, but are toxic to people & nature & complicated to effectively recover. Consider the glue fumes or solvent fumes at a nail shop, having the kind of safe fume hoods & vapor recovery units way too costly, as most of those shops are owned by immigrants, who do not have excess capital to put in complicated air handing systems. Even in Chip fabs sometimes the employees working in the clean room are harmed badly or killed by exposure to arsine gas, silanes, & other harsh chemical gases & liquids used in the chip making process stages. Sometimes there is a leak in a line or machine. They do everything reasonable to prevent leaks, but the cracks begin to show because of imperfection in everything that originals in the flaws in people, of which nothing perfectly straight has ever come.

If you watch The Origins of Precision video on YouTube, you will begin to understand how we minimize flaw & error to achieve greater machining precision in manufacturing, to make the machines that make most goods, as most things are mass produced today. Artisanal manufacturing too slow & thus costly in human time pay costs, & mechanization enables the mass production of alternatives that are 50x less costly to consumers. So if you want a hand made traditional thing, you will like have to pay a huge price premium for the low volume hand made items. My coffee grinder, a Eureka Mignon Notte for example was nearly $400, hand made in Florence, Italy, by skilled highly paid technicians, using the highest quality parts available. Its the cheapest model that Eureka sells, through Seattle Coffee Gear on Amazon.com via Prime membership ordering in my case. I reluctantly use amazon as a store, because things are available online that I use in my kitchen and my hobbies, that I cannot obtain locally otherwise. I also order stuff on Ebay, though that's even more of a "Wild West" as a shopping experience. I have purchased directly from other people on Etsy too, like this super cool vacuum tube wrist watch made by Roman Sparks somewhere in Easter Europe.

Toilets that flush into septic or sewer systems. Potable tap water distribution systems. Natural gas distribution & electrical distribution systems. Your vehicle, home, fridge, microwave, WIFI router, premium smartphones, smartwatches or fitness trackers, you probably live better than kings did in the past without even knowing or appreciating it! If you able to read this blog posting, your lucky, your one of the people who benefits from applied technology, now imagine how nice it would be if we could do that for a lot more people without causing any harm to nature, using more intelligence, wisdom, intelligent planning, working together, collaborating, sharing technology, working to make better solution & product faster, with the aim of never creating waste, always recycling what ever waste we do make, reusing what we already have by fixing & repairing & upgrading & modding things.

Its all about your perspective & ideologies. You have to have a "Can Do" "Fixer" attitude knowing that you can make a positive difference in someone else's life, in your life, for the health of animals & wildlife in nature or to protect ecosystem with ecological conservation, natural preservations, habitat protection, pollution reduction, decarbonization, improved emissions controls, phasing out toxic solvent like bromopropane with orange oil extracts for degreasing metals parts prior to electroplating, for examples, solvent from lemon & lime rinds, orange rinds, other terpene solvents from other plants, instead of toxic halogenated hydrocarbon degreasers. Eco-safe glue can be used to attach the upper to the sole of shoes. On & on there is always a better way, with lower emissions, with biosafe, life safe, non toxic adhesives, glues, coatings, materials, things that are biodegradable or highly recyclable. For example, we could choose to stop putting plastic in the Earth's oceans, converting those bottles & bags made of plastic into clothing, shoes, packaging materials & in other applications.
