RedBull 8.4 Oz of Sugary Caffeine / Available in Sugarless Versions

Red Bull Energy Drink
Purchased Feb 2, 2022

An energy drink like RedBull more than just caffeine, water & flavors, they even mix in vitamin B3, B5, B6 & B12 to enhance its nutritional profile. Only lightly acidic, with pH buffers, baking soda, calcium & magnesium salts. Lets examine all the ingredients & explain the functional properties a little more & why they might have added them to this Energy Drink //

RedBull Ingredients

Carbonated Water or CO2 dissolved as carbonic acid in water or H20, typically of engineered beverages of all kinds in bottles or cans that are typically 90% or more water, usually filtered high quality pasteurized clean safe water that goes through a bunch of processing stages to incorporate all the additional additives & "ingredients'

Sugar or real sugar, sucrose, that cheap natural sweetener demonized by Dr. Lustig & other doctors as a dose dependent toxin or poison when its consumed in excess. Think metabolic syndrome diseases like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, some cancers & other medical disorders from abusing simple carbohydrates that turn into blood glucose elevated shortly after being digested by microbes in the gut & bile & stomach acid to convert into small molecules that can enter your blood stream.

Glucose or human blood sugar, the liquid sugar that fuels brain & muscle cells quickly, glucotoxicity when too much glucose (high blood sugar levels) floating around in the blood stream, giving rise to insulin resistance & then pre diabetes & then if abusing carbs & sugars continues, weight gain & type 2 diabetes & high blood pressure or worse like neuropathy, stoke, clotting, embolism, heart disease, brain damage, ADD, ADHD, dementia, Alzheimers, & other neurological declines & a range of cancers & metastasized cancer cells fueled by glucose abundant conditions, to proliferate more intensely out of control.

Citric Acid or a natural fruit organic weaker acid, as a powder with a tart or sour flavor. Can be used an a preservative as the lightly acidic nature tends to suppress the growth of pathogenic bacteria, parasites & fungus.

Taurine or 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid, widely distributed in animal tissue, a sulfonic acid thats part of human stomach bile, with many biological roles such as the conjugation of bile acids, anti oxidation, osmoregulation, membrane stabilization, & modulation of calcium signaling. Essential in the cardiovascular system, skeletal muscle development & function, in the retina of the human eye & in the central nervous system or CNS (your brain & spinal column & nerve based local area network to your body for balance & locomotion or movement activity control, significant for authentic performance like all those cool athletes competing in the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Natural & Artificial Flavors and this is where the industrial art & science of ultra processing are applied to make the product distinctive in terms of flavor, taste, aroma, mouth feel, or consumption experience on the tongue & with the nasal bulb chemical sensory detection system of the human body. I think that gentleman on the NileRed & NileBlue YouTube channel has damaged his smell sensitivity by huffing different powerful chemical vapors that could easily damage the cells of the human nasal bulb, reducing his ability to detect smells, according to his latest video about making US Government Bathroom Malodor mixture, etc.

Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda) to increase the pH or make the drink less acidic, as a buffer, more alkaline & can make the mouth feel smoother & more refined, slippery feeling or softer on the pallet.

Magnesium Carbonate (pH-up) buffer that also calms nerves & muscles & relaxing too, it would increase the pH towards alkaline & improve the mouth feel, like the baking soda.

Colors (no listing either, to make the fluid amber colored, requires more research), thankfully not much & just enough to make it look distinctive.

Caffeine the stimulating alkaloid that tastes bitter as an anhydrous powder, that same xanthine alkaloid that gives coffee & tea, their respective wakefulness promoting properties via potent adenosine receptor antagonism or blocking of the adenosine respecters in the CNS or human brain cells.

Niacinamide or Vitamin B3, actually prescribed as a medication & an essential medication according to the World Health Organization. Also called Nicotinamide or NAM, found in many common foods like yeast, meat, milk, & green vegetables. Used to prevent niacin deficiency (pellagra) without causing skin flushing. Applied to the skin to treat acne. An amide of nicotinic acid. Some countries add NAM to grains for nutritional boosting assistance.

Pyridoxine HCL or Vitamin B6 an essential nutrient that serves as a coenzyme in more than 140 reactions in amino acid, glucose & lipid metabolism. Plants use it as sunscreen to protect against ultraviolet-B radiation from sunlike exposure. Produced in tiny quantities by some gut bacteria, animals must consume it as part of their diet to get 1 or 2 mg per day from beef, pork, fowl, fish, airy, eggs, mollusks & crustaceans. Many plants contain enough such that vegans & vegetarians are not as risk of deficiency, the symptoms of which include rash & inflammation around the mouth & eyes & drowsiness & neuropathy affective the sensory & motor nerves in the hands & feet.

Calcium Panthothenate as a salt, also known as Vitamin B5 or Pantothenic Acid, an a water soluble B vitamin & essential nutrient present in so many foods that deficiency very rate. Animals like humans require B5 to synthesize coenzyme A (CoA) essential for fatty acid metabolism, to make & breakdown proteins, carbohydrates & fats. The name derives from Greek "pantos" meaning "from everywhere" & found in nearly every food. In engineered products & ultra processed food & drink, the calcium salt Calcium Panothenate used for its chemical stability to acid, alkali & heat encountered during manufacturing, improving shelf life of the product.

Vitamin B12 or cobalamin, a water soluble vitamin involved in the metabolism as one of the 8 B vitamins, required as a cofactor for DNA synthesis in fatty acid & amino acid metabolism. Important for normal CNS function & the synthesis of neuron axon insulator myelin & in the production & maturation of red blood cells in the bone marrow. A loss of gastric intrinsic factor IF causes impaired absorption & deficiency. People taking proton pump inhibitors, H2 blockers & long term antacid are at risk of B12 difficiency, characterized by limb neuropathy, pernicious megaloblastic anemia or reduction in production in red blood cells. The ability to absorb B12 declines with age sadly.
