Earths water rich atmosphere blocks longer wave IR radiation from reaching ground telescopes or human eyes near the surface of Earth.
The only way to image space to find other habitable planets now unlocked with ultra sensitive IR imaging of the JWST or James Web Space Telescope!
Are we alone as intelligent beings, human on Earth, in the universe? Considering the scope of religions worldwide, God, angles, demons, satan & other beings not of Earth origin, I highly doubt that humans are alone in the universe. IR enables us to see behind the dust clouds to what's happening, to ancient light!
Cryogenic cooling of IR imaging sensors was a real pain in the development pathway :) The most sensitive IR sensors required deep cold operation since small thermal photons can cause image noise, meaning the colder the chip the less image noise or cleaner signals, ie. better imaging performance. In the stinger missile system they use small argon cylinders to cool the chip as argon expanded it thermal adsorption cools the IR imaging sensor. Newer IR imagers based on CMOS or CCD microbolometer are able to work at common room temperatures without cooling, so the latest stinger command controllers does not require the leaky argon cooling cartridges :) I have a little SEEK Thermal Imager that plugs into Lighting Charging & IO Port of the iPhone that enables IR imaging via the related IOS App :) It imagine sensor was original made for a pentagon contract, that Seek snagged up surplus to make their cool imaging dongles :)
When you look at the universe in the night sky, you're looking into the past. Light from our closest nearby star Alpha Centauri takes 4 years to reach our eyes or imaging sensors. This means when we look at Alpha Centauri we are looking 4 years into the past.
An object that's 1 million light years away means we are looking at light from that object from 1 million years ago, so the skyline of the night sky or space scape if your are fortunate enough to live away from the light pollution of a modern city means that the beautiful heavens in the night sky are a window into the distant past, what was happening billions of years ago when the solar systems were forming, when the milky way was an early gas cluster yet to solidify, into ancient history.
In other words, we are flying blind on space ship Earth with absolutely no idea what is actually happening out there in the universe because the light that reaches us to tell us anything from the distant ancient past. To do real time imaging we would need faster than light imaging technology! Enter science fiction as a future technology :)
Ground based telescopes with huge lenses called refractors started with Galileo & his optical telescope and astronomical observations that revolutionized astronomy. Throughout history increasingly large ground telescopes were constructed inside cathedral like observatories with large electrically attenuate doors that open so the telescope can view the night sky or the heavens above. Dedicated observers spend thousands of hours per year looking into space through these machines.
Sadly, Earth's atmosphere & dust from space limited this kind of refraction based lens telescope viewing. Larger reflector based mirror telescopes increased the light capture apertures more, but this never fully overcame atmospheric distortion & absorption problems.
We needed IR imaging to see through the dust in space! Thanks to JWST we have it!
Firstly, intelligence projects have proven scientifically that other dimension of existence exist, that is to say the we live in the 3rd or 4th dimension if your include space time / but there are higher levels of existence where only energy & information have any meaning, above the condensed matter phase of macromolecular phenomena that we observe with electron microscopes & similar scientific knowledge about chemical elements on Earth.
The human body containing 126 different chemical elements, most of which were forged in stars much larger than the Sun, such that human beings & many other lifeforms on Earth are literally made of recycled star dust, elements that came from other stelar systems in outer space long ago, probably billions of year ago!
We need space based telescopes to move beyond the atmosphere which is fully of water vapor & other gases with special absorbing properties, such that the greenhouse gas effect on Earth due to carbon dioxide & water vapor trapping solar radiation from the Sun's thermal & light emissions in a way that makes Earth warm enough to be habitable, or in the Goldilox zone where macromolecular biochemical enzyme driven cell reactions enable genetic information to translate into systems of cell systems of the human body, flesh & dynamically reshaping bone with bone marrow making blood & a brain & CNS & endocrine system & gut biome of microbes from environments on Earth with beneficial bacteria that help us to liquefy foods so the nutrients can be diffused across membranes in our gut so our body has building blocks to make more cells.
Everyone alive started out as a single cell & through food they absorbed elements from nature & integrated these elements into their cells as cell components that self assembly miraculously!
This means that what we eat stongly influences our health & disease pathology & wellness & aging & learning & our ability to move or do anything, our sleep, our mindset, our brain function, our mood, yes what you eat influences all aspects of your life, your biochemistry, your sleep wake cycle, your body energy levels, endurance, brain function, memory, thinking, executive function, every single aspect of human life influenced by human diet & what people are eating & drinking.
So make wise food & nutrition choices & eat more fiber & healthy fats & less sugar & starch & sugary carbs that cause obesity & type 2 diabetes & heart disease & ADD & ADHD & dementia & Alzheimers diseases, probably many forms of cancer, especially pancreatic cancers. All the hallmarks of the SAD ultra processed fast & junk food heavy candy sugar soda toxic American Diet!
The ESO 39 meter mirror Giant Telescope in the Atacama desert or ELT should be able to find information about the origins of life with very high resolution 800 special ceramic mirror spectral imaging of planetary atmospheres, to see the weather of other planets, 7 the arid climate of this high desert environment has no light pollution, so pristine imaging of space possible!
Telescopes enable humans to see more in space because they can college more light & more kinds of light than the human eye alone. Just as electron microscopes allow molecular imaging of tiny aspects of reality, with telescopes we are looking into ancient history since it takes millennia for light to reach Earth from the father's reaches of the universe, and the light gets red shifted because of spacetime expanding so even UV becomes IR by the time it reaching eye or imaging sensors near Earth. This is why the IR imaging of JWST so important, it lets scientists look into the dark regions of space where we can see even more colder objects, just as Earth harder to see from father away than the Sun, being able to view cooler objects will hell us find another Earth like planet!
Large ground telescopes used for professional astronomy have to be located in remote areas away from human populations because human society too limited to not create light pollution with artificial lights with poorly designed figures because its not widely understood to put the light photons where they are useful to our eyes near the ground & not throw light at the sky where it creates glare & backscatter & light pollution that obscures ground based observations of the heavens above in the night sky, so if you go out to look all you see is a blur of glare from poorly designed light fixtures & other sources of light pollution near cities and large human populations. This is why I am a member of the International Dark Skies Association, with the guiding vision to reduce light pollution :)
Interferometry with arrays of radio telescopes enabled imaging of black holes in 2019 for the first time. When 4 or more telescopes are arrayed, the spectral imaging precision improved by 25x, using computers to combine the imaging from each instrument, similar advances are used in Chipfab deep EUV mirror bounce lithography development for 3nm & 2nm chip nodes in the future // known curtesy of TSMC information leaks & public disclosure of the developmental pathway of ASML :)

Premium efficiency when applied by industry always done to improve profitability. Market forces are what create shared wealth and prosperity, its businesses competing that create value added. Educated people are motivated to buy more stuff, they demand higher quality of living, better institutions, less crime, better education, better healthcare, better transportation, better food standards, better drug purity laws, better water & air quality, better jobs, better services, better products, a better life, the American Dream people! Invest in education if you want a better future economy!

There are many global science project to investigate astronomy deeper to answer fundamental questions about life, where we can find other life, where life came from, what life is made of, how the universe works, what's happening in the universe, what does it look like out there in space, what can we learn as people from studying space about the tiny nature of all human activity on Earth and what does that mean for each person to inspire people to keep going?
What can we teach our children about astronomy to inspire STEM in school so that they become astrophysicist and future employees of NASA and ESO & other space programs. Its not just for military industrial might to make neurton satellites to fry ground targets, its also about expanding knowledge so we learn more about reality & teach other the best information that's scientifically possible to create or more precisely to infer or derive by observing phenomena as they appear with imaging technology & computers & information systems to distribute the information to the general public on NASA's website :)
