Healthy Coping Mechanisms for Life's Stressors

 Life contains many sources of stress or a plurality of possible stressors; however, you can overcome all or any of them by embracing healthy coping skills.

Stop, close your eyes, take a slow deep breath in, now hold it for a few seconds, slowly exhale very slowly, then repeat this as many times as it takes. You can roll your shoulders to release upper tensions & enhance the relaxing effect of a deep breathing release exercise.

Ask God for help, in prayer speak from your heart unto the Lord "Father, give me strength, I am turning to you because I am choosing to trust in and rely on you when it makes zero sense to the world, be with me Christ Jesus, I need the Holy Spirit to help me Lord, thank you for who you are, I love you, please be with me in this time, I need you badly father, help me to feel your love, healing & forgiveness, in the holy name of Christ Jesus, Amen. 

Think of 5 things you really like or love in life. Perhaps a beautiful sunset with colorful clouds and warm air cooling just a touch as the sun dips beyond the horizon. Maybe it could be Creme Brulé a French custard desert that you hit with a blow torch to caramelize the sugar topping into a hard candy layer that cracks when you penetrate it with a spoon to enjoy the thick creamy flavorful creamy custard beneath. An old friend or someone you love or deeply appreciated. A favorite vehicle or machine or place to go. It can be almost anything, even a beverage you really like, I often think of coffee to feel better. 

If you have been spending a lot of time inside lately, going outside for a walk, adventure, hike, stroll, whatever it takes to get you out in nature, bring an umbrella if it is raining, if it is cold and rainy, a winter jacket with hood & or warm fleece hat to keep your head & ears warm. Even in winter there are clear sunny days when you can recharge basking in the warm light the Sun casts upon you in splendor.

Exercise a gold standard for letting go of stress and tension. I do these virtual reality workouts using something that looks like ski goggles, called Meta Quest 2 VR using app known as Les Mills Body Combat, & these sessions are between 8 and 20 minutes, usually around 14 min, & you holding controllers in your left & right hands that act as your virtual hands to punch or hit glowing green or purple targets synchronized to music as the fitness coach encourages you how to do it correctly with positive affirmational words that make you want to work out harder, and within a few minutes you're going to become hot, sweaty & start breathing much harder, and by the time your finished you will be dripping in sweat, thirsty for water, so warm you will keep sweating & it could take 10 minutes of more or a cold shower to cool you down. 

If you skipped breakfast because your IF intermittent fasting, having a very nutritious delicious meal for lunch a great way to boost your moral, mood & feelings, because enjoyment of flavor & taste knowing its nourishing your body & mind, there is something deeply restorative about this that sings to everyone, since all people have to eat to live, but if you choose carefully, you can eat the best things that make you feel amazing without penalizing your health. It does not have to be expensive. At Trader Joe's a local grocery, they sell amazing organic complete salad kits for under $5. They might not be a deeply satisfying meal, so you can throw in a $5 protein item to balance out the nutrient input for a very healthy $10 lunch. Given how the US dollar has lost 97% of purchasing power since 1913, a ten dollar lunch of healthy food, even if its $12 or $15 an amazing value if eating it makes you feel amazing, where spending the same money on fast food will taste good but make you feel like junk later on. 

The same can be said for using alcohol to deal with stress. You drink one, feel great, want another one, then after a few of them, the next day, headache, hangover, dehydration, a bad value overall. You trade a temporary joy for a long term health problems, a very unhealthy way to cope with stress, like smoking cigarettes, as smoking cigarettes almost certain way to develop health problems since smoke generated by cigarettes contains thousands of substances, like tar, which are bad for lung cells, which barely touches the toxicology reality in medicine about the harms of smoking tobacco products, as they are varied & many difference diseases and disorders are linked with high quality evidence to smoking.
