For road trips or camping and for a main fridge buffer at home for organization in a strange under utilized cool upstairs location with a power outlet when the waste heat perfectly fine :) I opted for the cheaper version without the 171WH battery module, Battery Not Included. I will be using it with a 100W mono- solar panel into the ECO-Flow River 2 MAX Power Station 512WH LFP battery back via its XT50 DC port with MPPT controller internally for battery charge efficiency, located opposite the AC power input port on the back of the unit. It has a 660W AC charger with the included thick shorter 10-3 cable. 


The integrated handlebar & reversible lid + lighted interior also very rugged and well made with extra thick EPDM interior foam insulation that minimizing energy use to around 0.5kWh per day or less in 25W ECO mode, or you can cool it rapidly at full blast 38W. In included and AC wall adapter power transformer and cables to plug it into a regular home power outlet. It also includes a 12v cigarette power or automotive power accessory outlet plug & cable so you can plug it into your cars power system to keep it cooled using vehicle energy while on road trips. 

It's a glamorous camping or "GLAMPING" accessory that fits in the foot well areas of our 2022 Corolla Hybrid that we are talking on a few road trips in the near future. In the past we used a cooler + bags of ice, but since we have a battery power bank & solar charger, this completes a portable energy kit, while propane & a jet burner + a smaller cheap steel pot, titanium cup & SS French Press provides cooking & boiling energy to make coffee or tea or soup or stew, while veggies and fresh meat or fish or dairy and insulin and cat food can be kelp in this fridge without playing with bags of ice on the go. It will live in the rear seat area along with the power bank :) 

Transporting Insulin Cool + Fresh Food 

We have to keep insulin at around 40 F and having cold to transport meat, fresh veggies, milk, butter, eggs, having a automotive portable fridge on a roadtrip + camping enables advance cooking while camping. Propane, butane, isobutane, mixtures thereof an similar via funny adapters for mixing & filling provide the gaseous fuels to energize out portable stove, camping stove, so we can boil water to make coffee and tea, soup, stew & much more. 

Cooler + Bags of Ice Previously 

In the past we used an insulated cooler + bags of ice acquired along the way, during our 8000 mile road trip across the USA in the summer of 2022. That produced a lot of ice melt water, so we kept everything in ziplock bags and it worked, but I had been passively researching portable refrigeration technology under the vaccine fridge concept, stuff that can go to -40F using very little power or energy using a helium working fluid free piston stirling cryogenic compressor technology, but those cost $6500 to $15000, made by Global Cooling & do not have ready availability on Ebay, Amazon or Alibaba for consumer purchasing. I also do not need or want a portable fridge to cool to -40, since I am not storing reproductive fluids, live vaccines or other fragile biological samples that have to be super cold or deeply frozen at very low temperatures.

Case Form Factor Driving Research & Purchase Choice

I also wanted a form factor tall, wide, and narrow that would fit behind the driver or passenger seat of our 2022 Corolla Hybrid. The form factor also tall enough to enable storage of a 64oz whole milk carton, larger beverage bottles, more capacity means more stacking space or interior volume. Most competing units use a wide, deep, shallow design that makes it easier to access the stuff inside, but they are better for trunk areas of SUV's and similar due to the large footprint. Meg & I really liked the color and design and high quality build out of tough ABS. I know about plastics from FDM 3D printing PETG & PLA in our Prusa Mini printer. 

Plastics & Polymers Increasingly Used

I also know about plastics from Tap Plastics and from doing research on Glock and the Nylon 2 used in the lower of Glock Pistols which are otherwise made of CNC metal parts in the upper. I know about polymers from researching why some plastics are used instead of metal in the intake manifolds of engines, to preserve heat in the block & heat for higher thermal efficiency & because the intake brings in cold air the airflow cools the plastic enough to keep it from melding from the combustion heat and is on the cold side of the engine in the front where cold air also being shoved in when the vehicle moving forward. Other engines parts are starting to be made of plastics, to reduce cost and mass, possibly also to limit the operating life of such parts under the banner of designed obsolescence. 

Cost Value Use Case 

It might sound insane to spend two-hundred on a sparingly used item, since we only go camping and on road trips during the summer, but we also have a secondary use case at home for fridge buffering, and this one small enough to fit in underutilized space under the stair case where we store other durable infrequently used items. I wanted to get the ENGLE MR040 but they are $787 used and $899 new, way overpriced. The shape, size, capacity and form factor would also not work in our compact car. I like the ENGLE because it has superior compressor technology in the form of a variable swing spring compressor piston that uses way less energy and can throttle like an inverter microwave. 

Consider Refrigeration & Freezer Technology

Before modern times where these artificial cold via electrical power was possible, fresh food was impractical, impossible or not feasible to transport long distances. This means that salting was the main way to preserve meat for long sea voyage on slow wind powered ships in antiquity. This also meant not fresh fruits or veggies and caused vitamin C deficiency disorder call scurvy in sailors during prolonged voyages at sea.

Refrigerant Gasses+ Electric Compressor in Fan Blown Radiator Heat Exchanger to Move Heat Energy

The compressor system in a fridge similar to that of a dehumidifier or air conditioner, in the sense that electric motor compressor, fans, braised pipes, metal heat exchangers, control electronics & similar are combined to move heat from the cold side to the hot side where the waste heat blown into the environment. Global emitted waste heat from all waste heat sources can be a source of global heating as a causal basis of global warming or climate change since many electrical systems, servers, oil refineries, the internet, computers, appliances, homes, vehicles of all kinds, release waste heat into the biosphere.

Vehicle Waste Heat in Urban Heat Island Problem 

When fuel is combusted in an engine, heat & pressure PVT pressure volume temperature relationship, creates mechanical force to shove the piston down to spin the crankshaft converting the linear motion of the downward pressure gas expansion combustion shoved piston into rotational torque and power output in the crank which further turns gears in the transmission to turn axel shafts connected to the vehicle wheels to twist the tires against the road surface to propel the vehicle. Waste heat from the engine emitted from the coolant radiator, the engine block, and in the exhaust gases and exhaust pipes. This waste heat actually warms the roadway which is also darkly colored behind heated by sunlight, contributing to the urban heat island effect as thousands of hot engine vehicles emitting IR & hot gas are driving stop and go in cities with lots of tall buildings and asphalt paved darkly colored roadways. 

How An AC System Works / Fridge or Dehumidifier

A compressor moves pressured refrigerant gas between a cold side & hot side fan assisted radiators to move heat from the space being cooled to dump heat outside into the environment, or to chill a coil to dehumidify the air, or to pump heat out of the fridge/ freezer to make the inside cold while dumping heat into the room where the fridge is operating. 

Deeper Dive into AC functionality

A scroll type compressor or piston based compressor inside a sealed housing containing an electric motor drive unit takes electricity and converts it into mechanical energy to pump the refrigerant gas (many exist) to a high pressure which travels to the cold side air cooling condenser where it evaporates taking heat into the liquid gas expansion and returns a warmer gas to the hot side evaporator which eject heat into the environment though a fan blown radiator, then the cooler gas returns to the compressor to be compressed and heated again by the higher pressure then sent as a liquid under pressure to the cold side condenser where the evaporation against takes heat away effectively cooling the air on the cool side condenser, while water vapor in the air on the cold side condenses on the heat exchanger radiator and collected in a moisture collecting header sent via pipe to drainage, though in a dehumidifier this condensed moisture drips into the internal bucket or is pumped away or drained away via a hose connection. In the home fridge freezer, the same method used to pump heat energy away from the condenser circuit inside the cold box interior of the fridge or freezer to the evaporator coil under or on the back of the fridge where the warm gas ejects heat into the room. 

Heat Pumps are Reverse Valve Enhanced AC's that can also act a space Heater

A heat pump operating with the same technology has the ability to make the evaporator become the condensers and the condenser to become the evaporator by reversing the direction of the refrigerant flow so that heat pumps can pull heat from the exterior radiator and pump into to the interior radiator for heating during the colder weather, while reversing it allows the system to cool indoor air and dump the extracted heat outside during hot humid weather and can reduce humidity inside to make indoor air more comfortable during high heat summer conditions. In this way electrical energy combines with an electric compressor pump moving refrigerant gas between fan blow copper radiators connected by braised copper sealed tubing to pump heat. 

Spiritual Analogies to Moving Heat

There is no such thing as cold, cold is simply an absence of heat. Just as there is no such thing as anti-wind, there is only wind pressure, invisible as the wind may be, we can see what the wind does to tress and in winter storm and can feel the wind on our skin and know that wind pressure exist even though its invisible. By a similar way someone can know that God is real, even if God is invisible, and can sense the effect of faith in God transforming their heart, mind, will, emotions, choices, actions, behaviors, speech, conduct and the way they view other people, animals, nature and life itself, brightening a personals worldview and outlook with hope and optimism that wrong will be made right and that bad people will be brought to justice before the Lord as all people die and stand judgement before our God, the Lord creator our God, father of Christ Jesus, the one true God that reigns supreme overall other gods and people.
