Water, Shelter, Food, Fishing, Fuel, Map & Compass & Skill to Use, Non-Perishable or Long Shelf-Life Food, Ammo & Guns. Your home will become a fortress until you decide to travel to a safer location.
Be willing to disable or fatally wound other bad actors in order to survive, as some people will want to kill you and steal your stuff along your journey away from cities during a long-term societal collapse.
Grid locked roads, no mobile data as cell networks and internet outage ongoing. No electrical power for anything, only shelf stable food prevails as a supply.
You can survive without food for 40 days max, but without water you can succumb to fatal dehydration within a few days. Without fuel your vehicle will not work and battery electric vehicles will not be able to recharge during prolonged power outages.
No cell phones service LTE or 5G, no wireless internet of any kind, even star link will be offline since the main internet will be down during a prolonged worldwide power outage.
All those smartphone features not working, and without internet most of the apps will not even work offline. Do you actually want to live in a world like this, do you have a tenacious desire to live another day, to survive during a prolonged societal collapse? If so, keep reading!
First Aid Supplies & Knowledge
Have backup first aid supplies, like isopropyl alcohol to clean wounds, band-aids and wound dressing. Know first aid skills and keep learning ongoing. Have lots of dental floss and toothbrush as a simple dental problem can become fatal blood poisoning. Backing soda can be used as toothpaste and for cleaning, along with white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide or bleach. These are all good to back backup supplies for, including duct tape.
To Travel in Grid-Lock Traffic
"Dirt Bike w/ Lots of Extra Fuel, Hard Foam in Tires Inflated Run flat Style so works even if punctured or shot at, waterproof warm clothing and rain gear, it's going to be stormy randomly as you travel after sheltering for a while until the main chaos subsides. Fog the entire dirt bike with spray wax to waterproof it more and prevent corrosion, avoiding the tires by covering them with old newspaper or craft paper or removable plastic sheet to keep the wax off the tires.
Lane Splitting Dangers
While lane splitting can help you bypass grid locked cars trucks and SUV clogging up highways used to get away from cities to rural locations, some sick weirdos will open their car door after spotting you from in the side view mirror, after first hearing you coming up due to the exhaust noise, to cause you to crash in order to try to steal your dirt bike. You will probably have fight and injure such a person, then get back on the dirt bike after crashing. Fortunately, such low-quality people are rare, the kind that would deliberately open their car door in order to cause a lane splitting motorcycle to crash. though more people take the intellectual gloves off during times of chaos, so some good people turn bad in order to survive. When the going gets tough the tough get going, as the old adage of wisdom suggests.
Stronger, Faster, Smarter
You have to be physically and mentally very fit to ride a dirt bike with lots of extra fuel many hundreds of miles in a day. Getting more fuel on the go when the power is oil and societal chaos unfolding means the gas station will be out of fuel and not in operation. You will probably have to use a hose and pump to suck fuel out of abandoned cars in order to re-fuel.
Have your piston chambered and ready to rock, with a strap attachment so that even if you let go it will still be attached, like scuba or jet-ski key, think worse case. Think like an Eagle Scout, being physically, mentally and morally strong, with a strong desire to live another day, motivated to help others who also want to survive apocalypse or upcoming World War III or The Great Tribulation as foretold in the bible.
Riding Trails not Roads
Using off road trails probably safer because vehicles with 4 wheels cannot use such trails. Hiking or walking trails can be traveled by dirt bikes with long suspension travel. Be aware that engine exhaust noise will enable people to hear you coming from far away. While an electric dirt bike or e-bike might seem tempting since they are silent and very easy to ride, the limited range until the battery runs out and slow re-charging when the power out a no go.
Choose Bugout SHTF Bike Carefully
You need a kick start dirt bike that is carbureted in order to get away to a safer location. That way even if the dirt bike does not have electric start or if the 12v starting battery is out of charge or dead, you can start it and get going. In order to carry a passenger 2up, you need a 400cc class dirt bike or 650 class dirt bikes, since 250cc and smaller will not have enough power or torque to carry 2 adults & survival gear up steep trails for long distances. DRZ400 kitted out with extra fuel storage & SHTF gear, survival bugout gear + what you carry as a backpack full of bugout supplies, mostly water, first aid, dental floss & brush, non-perishable energy dense food, paracord, tent, sleeping bag, mylar emergency heat blankets, waterproof printed maps, a water proof compass, a well-oiled cleaned pistol with extra ammo, clean and dry underwear and socks, steel toed water proof boots, ibuprofen, aspirin, alcohol, read about a motorcycle bug out SHFT kit online to research a solution to develop and implement so you can get out of dodge when the time requires travel.
The downside of larger displacement dirt bikes, they are bigger and heavier and use more fuel. I would think about one without loud exhaust, since quite stealthier to avoid detection. Consider fuel economy, fuel stabilizer when stored, WD40 to prevent rust and Vaseline to lubricate front shock seals. Carry at least 4 one-gallon gasoline cans strapped on, to double the range of your 3-gallon fuel tank bike. Getting fuel during emergencies means long longs or very dangerous gas station trips as everyone including criminals and bad actors will want to buy fuel persistently.
Get additional storage bags for your motorcycle so you can carry a proper well-equipped bug out kit with everything you need to survive a long trip over many days. Flatt proofing tires, waterproof riding gear with armor, guards installed over left foot shifter, over the handlebar clutch for left hand and right-hand front brake, and rear brake right foot, so that tree parts or sticks or bugs or debris does not clog up your controls.
The hand guards protecting your brake and clutch leaver will also keep your hands safer and warmed in cold weather by blocking wind cooling too that can otherwise create cold hands that make controlling more challenging in freezing winter weather. Consider warn insulated gloves, good quality riding boots that you can also walk in easily. Waterproof gear essential because your going to have to ride in cold rain if you travel long distances in the winter. Add a big front windshield as this will keep cold air, rain, bugs and rocks from hitting you, while also reducing wind buffeting.

Our Yamaha MT-03 will have to work, & it can with 321cc parallel twin making 40hp & 20 lb-ft torque, while getting a respectable 53 MPG from 3.1 gallon tank, means fuel every 125 miles, but carrying 4 gasoline containers strapped on securely, that means another 200 miles of range, so more than 350 miles before a fill up of the tank and spare gasoline containers. At 56 MPG, it can go 185 miles max, but filling up sooner better. Carrying at least 2 gallons and even better 3 gallons of spare gas to extend range before having to fill up a great idea. Also carry hoses and hand pump to suck gasoline out of abandoned parked vehicles if gas stations are offline due to a prolonged power outage.

"DR-650SE is my choice of vehicle. With an added high volume (6.6 gal) fuel tank, replacing stock tank, I have a 250 mile range before switching to reserve. Then about another 30 miles on reserve.I get anywhere from 50 to 68 MPG. If SHTF was caused by an EMP carry electronic spares for the DR wrapped in foil & stored in metal box. Oil change recommendation is every 3,000 miles. That’s fine as long as you bug location is a lot less. You can run over that 3,000 depending on the oil type."

Polymer gasoline bags are the lightest, most durable, easiest to strap on, stay sealed, can expand a bit as heated or shrink when cooling as the temperature outside during your SHTF trip will vary by time of day, day to day and more.
Currently our 20 MT-03 needs a taller windscreen, more storage, gasoline containers to extend range, hand and foot protection, and a nice wrap of paracord, tent, water storage, lighters, toilet paper, exhaust heat water heater would be cool to make tea or coffee on the go, wrapping copper pipe around the catalytic converter, carry spare engine oil & new filter & tools for oil change, a tire repair kit, battery jumper with air compressor and tire repair kit, camping shovel, axe, fishing gear, first aid kit. Riding two up both need full bug out backpacks, plus the on-bike storage stuff.
Go Rural Away from Big Cities
When you do get going, avoid large metro areas, as cities will be very dangerous with criminal gangs who will use guns to steal other people's water, food and fuel. Cell phones and GPS will probably not work, there will probably be a bio-war and long duration power outage. China already said they will use bioweapons during WWIII against the US and its allies.
Shelter, Fire, Hunting, Fishing, Rain-Water Collection, Water Purification via Boiling
Know how to make a fire and cook over it outside, practice and get the hang of it using wood you collect nearby, and also dry the wet wood using waste heat from the fire you're cooking with. Have a bag of sealed instant coffee powder as this can be a huge morale booster and some high proof alcohol, silver and gold for currency to trade for supplies.
Practice all the Skills Needed to Survive
Keep a compact folding fishing pole, line, hooks, bait and gear, practice using your axe and shovel, building improvised housing, tents, you need to learn how to survive outside for long periods without any access to grocery stores or supplies. Use plastic sheet with paracord to catch rainwater into bottles to keep you hydrated, as dehydration fatal within 4 days. You can probably ride the dirt bike for 20 days without food, but fuel and water need to be collected daily. Think like a prepper!
Walk, Learn, Teach, Share, Care & Socialize
In a survival situation and even today, knowledge is powerful, so you know how to survive, or have books on first aid or for entertainment to keep brains engaged and prevent boredom or moral decreases. Do what you need to do in order to stay mentally sharp and physically stronger.

Be willing to offer comfort, to teach other people your skills, to help create a sense of community with group activities like reading a book outload to entertain a group of people or fun activities to play together that maintain physical fitness.
That means good trail boots and extra socks in dry bags. Staying clean and dry very important to prevent infections. Cold clothing soaked with cold water steals body heat in windy conditions 700 times faster than dry cloths. Warm & dry the key to what made fire allow mankind to survive throughout history.
Think about good venting when making a fire for warmth, you dont want to die from CO poisoning or from breathing sooty smoke which makes it harder to breathe and can cause lung disorders that make physical fitness much harder to maintain.
