Boxer engines are probably most tightly associated with Subaru a division of Japanese multinational conglomerate Fuji Heavy Industries, a pet project that bloomed with female plus female relationship (gay marriage) buyers of the outback wagon though the 1990's export heavy revenue cycle, fortunately for WRX fans WRC off-road racing smut, the free love in Seattle trend kept that brand alive, at a time when BMW was still using twin boxer engines in so many different motorcycle models.
Now in the motorcycle market, Yamaha king of reliability, noting a 11% failure glitch rate compared to BMW models at nearly 40% major malfunctions inside 4 years of ownership. I am reminded of BMW i3 REX variant which derives its range extending engine from a BMW motors-scooter, a small gasoline tank, so many owners of this CFRP dominant C.A.F.E compliance vehicles enabled in setting sustain charge mode firing the REX engine to run continually, overheating it badly, causing failures to happen, as the REX engine generator was only mean to sustain charge when the battery pack of the i3 reached 20% charge, so that the. owner or operator could get to a charging station at home or on the go.
Speaking of on the go, 2020 Traded out our 2019 Honda From SF for a Yamaha MT03, offset twin 321cc 35kw, 140kmph top speed, ~2.3L/100km* best "real world" fuel economy (e.g. consumption) as the Honda Grom was unable to go "freeway speeds well enough to work for my daily commute use case.
I rode 2020 Yamaha MT03 from Issaquah, Wa, to Roseburg Or, USA, in one day, 560km, making my butt and inner thighs area sore for almost 4 days after. The ride home on the same route was less painful as my body had adapted to the riding stresses of this bike, which in 6th gear hums along at 8000 rpm at highway speeds.
In 2026, rode 2020 Yamaha MT03 through 15C cold rain out of King County Washington State to a rural town in Idaho, in one way, nearly 1000km, so soaked water filled my boots, soaked my inner clothing, even though I had a rain suit insulating full body suit on the outside, water came through neck opening at 60-85 mph, 100-240kmph, making it a very cold ride, but far less painful in the end, afterward, able to heal in a day or so, probably because of fasting during that time, water only and no food, which improves healing via increased Autophagy, which I learned about in this amazing YouTube video called "the Science of Fasting HD"
I was closed to buying a KTM Duke 390, when we went with the Yamaha MT03 instead, after pre-purchase online research showed Yamaha far more reliable in all weather, especially electronics, wiring, computers, dash, fuel injection, engine management, battery systems, LED lighting, and overall mechanical structure of both the engine and transmission, liquid cooled and emissions controlled, about $6K out the door with License and Taxes from i90 motorsports :)
More recently I purchased a Paramotor system, OpenPPG 2.5 Atom 80 with Ozone Moxie PWR HAT/W brightly colored ENA safety wing. Having riding street bikes since 1998, I was interested in a "sky scooter" and the easiest cheapest way to all day XC sky rides at 30kmph or 23mph, was this way, thanks to Tucker Gott on Youtube who inspired the new interesting way to FAR103 in USA> sky fun solo trips.
