Improve Your Fuel Economy Easily

22 Corolla rated avg MPG 53 I am able to get 41% better fuel economy! 3.14 L/100km or liters per 100 km 74.9 MPG or miles per gallon

Hypermiling a set of methods to radically improve your existing vehicles fuel economy.

Learn how Hypermilers increase their gas mileage (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypermiling

  • Avoiding unnecessary braking and acceleration
  • Maintain a lower, steady speed in the highest gear at a low RPM
  • Shift up gears as early as possible
  • Avoid idling
  • Utilizing cruise control
  • Use air conditioning and electric equipment sparingly
  • Keep windows closed to reduce drag[7]

How to minimize fuel consumption before driving include:

  • Planning to avoid traffic congestion
  • Monitoring energy efficient tires & inflation using TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system)
  • Adjusting aerodynamics devices
  • Avoid overfilling the fuel tank
  • Keep up on proper and timely maintenance[7]

Energy efficient vehicle operation intelligence works in cars, trucks, SUVs, boats, aircraft, airplanes, ships and virtually all vehicles have a specific operating mode or set of operating parameters determined by the pilot or driver inputs (volition, free will, agency) that radically improves the fuel economy or reduces how much fuel is used per unit of distance traveled, so you can go further with less fuel and lower emissions!

When Hypermiling techniques are used this is known as an extreme form of energy-efficient driving.

The best hypermiling in automobiles usually possible with Toyota Hybrid's since the HSD hybrid synergy drive combines a higher 40+ % thermal efficiency Atkinson cycle engine with 2 electric motor generators connected to the final drive via PSD or the power split device, and a small traction battery energy storage module to accomplish many types of start stop, acceleration assistance in electric driving modes, advanced ultra low energy coasting in what is similar to neural in other vehicles.

Toyota spent years tuning their hybrid technology or strong hybrid automobile drivetrains for extended engine off periods when stopped in traffic or at intersection lights, energy recovery via break regeneration when coasting or going down slopes or inclines or descending hills or driving in hilly terrain or when slowing to a stop.

Effectively our 2022 Corolla Hybrid has the same drivetrain as the 3rd and 4th Generation Prius, but weighs several hundred pounds less and has more agile driving dynamics or feels more fun to drive, while also being easier for me to hypermile to over 70 MPG on regular unleaded gasoline.

All together advanced start stop used in city or traffic congestion can boost fuel economy by 5-25%, and the stupid lazy greedy automakers could have been doing Start-Stop with the simple addition of 1 more 12v car battery, a combined alternator starter, a induction motor and controller in the transmission or replacing the flywheel or on the crank of the engine like Honda IMA or the ACG system in the PCX150 scooter.

Hypermiling can be practiced in any vehicle regardless of fuel consumption. It gained popularity due to the rise in gasoline prices in the 2000s

Consider removing stuff that you do not regularly use from your vehicle, like sporting goods equipments, large tool box with heavy steel tooling (* titanium critical tools very low mass, but costly), large water containers, additional fuel bottles, bolt cutters, welding gear, EDC vehicle go-bags, hydraulic jacks, full size wheel and spare tire. Every additional 100lbs of gear will reduce MPG by about 1 MPG. This is why race cars are stripped of all non essential interior stuff, that can easily remove 400lbs of plastics, fabric, foam and other things from the inside of a typical automobile.

Be very careful with the foot controlling the gas pedal, as even wearing thinner shoes with improved tactile feedback known to improve fuel economy.

~ Pulse & Glide the way they get extreme fuel economy in the Shell Eco Marathon, see https://www.shellecomarathon.com/

~ In light traffic you can slow when approaching an empty light controlled intersection such that it changes from red to green for go by the time you get there, so you can keep your vehicle speed, or maintain inertia, which reduces energy that would have been wasted coming to a stop scraping away brake pads (heat, dust) and then having the engine or motor waste energy to speed up again.

~ Drafting by driving closely behind cargo container class 8 semi trucks in the slipstream. I got pulled over and lectured by the Washington State Patrol for doing this in rural eastern Washington with no traffic around, the officer was a control and safety freak! Drafting done in cycle racing on bicycles in competitive racing events since drafting saves energy by using the vehicle ahead to push the air out of the way, reducing aerodynamic drag of your vehicle, enabling you to achieve 40% less energy or fuel use, and it works in gasoline, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles. In an EV these techniques can boost range per charge. Someone in a Tesla Model 3 was able to go more than 1000km on a single charge during a 30 hr drive using the autopilot control mode on a private roadway.

~ In aircraft deliberately slowing to extend range, also known as super cruise modes that are slightly slower. In 2009 Klaus Savier able to get 45 MPG in his modified VariEze aircraft equipped with digital fuel injection & ignition by Light Speed Engineering. In many small aircraft its possible to operate in peak efficiency that improves fuel economy up to 100 MPG or 2.4L/100 Km
