People who consume common popular soda drinks regularly or in large quantities are fat, sick, and getting worse faster because of their addiction to the soft drinks, think sugary beverages filled with phosphoric acid, and other artificial ingredients of questionable health impacts, probably bad for people who regularly consume such engineered beverages.

Yes, drinking soda raises blood sugar levels, without a doubt. They have sugar free versions that are widely less popular, so the net effect on society as whole is negative health impacts to people around the world as these very popular brands are sold internationally in many economies in many countries. In parts of Mexico where the water is unsafe to drink, one particular soft drink a very popular beverage that most locals drink daily. They have extensive health problems as a result of drinking carbonate sugar based soft drinks as their primary source of liquids for hydration.
I think that soft drinks are responsible for more preventable early deaths & preventable diseases than the Mexican drug cartels who smuggle cocaine & meth into America. Noting that if Americans stopped using cocaine & meth it would defund most of these criminal trafficking empires run by very wealthy drug lords, or the CIA or other intelligence agents who are as corrupt as the Federal Police of Mexico. No one makes anyone drink soda pop, and the soft drink companies make bottled water available where the pop is sold. Fancy RO or reverse osmosis water in bottles that costs as much as the soda in similar 20oz plastic bottles made of PET plastic.
I can order a 2 liter Coca-Cola online for under $2.70 or a six pack of 20oz bottles for under $7 on Door Dash with a small fee for delivery // but refrain.
While it might seem that I am demonizing the soda pop industry, this is not true. I buy Mexican Coca-Cola at Costco sweetened with real sugar, not HFCS, and enjoy a glass bottle of Coca-Cola periodically, as a throwback to my childhood when Coco-coal was not sweetened with high fructose corn syrup made from specialized Monsanto GMO corn that's inedible without extensive chemical processing, like they do with common Canola or cheap Vegetable Oils commonly used for cooking, when butter, lard, coconut oil, avocado oil, peanut oil, other tree nut oils & ghee are superior for deep frying, pan frying, cooking, baking & similar food preparation.

Big pharmaceutical companies sell people toxic prescription drugs with horrid side effects, with warning that common antidepressants can cause suicide by disturbing the balance of neurochemistry in the human brain of the patient who asks their doctor about whatever new drug being marketed in advertisements that encourage people who see these add's to ask their doctor about the new drug. Often people take cocktails of different drugs with unknown effects.
Big adult beverage companies sell ethanol or alcohol products that cause alcohol poisoning, liver damage, health problems, cancer, dehydration, hang over, intoxication, brain damage & similar health problems when consumed in excess. Drunk driving accidents kill many people & injure many more people all the time in many countries where automobiles operated by people intoxicated from drinking alcoholic beverages end up making mistakes & errors from impaired judgement because ethanol inhibits brain function by acting on the GABA receptors to inhibit neurotransmission of information in the human brain.
Thus as people increase their consumption of alcohol, their brain turns off the higher faculties of executive function, and at elevated blood levels ethanol can cause stupor or unconsciousness or death. Fortunately the liver uses the dehydrogenase enzyme system to convert ethanol to acetic acid for excretion in urine as the ethanol or alcohol is metabolized slowly.
Ethanol in the body leaks out of the skin, lungs, eyes, brain, every part of the body leaks ethanol vapors to release it from the body, this is how the breathalyzer works, as the ethanol fuel cell converts alcohol in the breath of the person being tested for BAC or blood alcohol concentration, into DC current & voltage, as a math formula therein applied translates this electrical signals into a corresponding BAC score.
No one makes anyone drink soda, take prescription drugs, drink alcoholic beverages or do anything else. Each person has free will & agency to choose how they operate, what to do & say, how they act, what they eat or drink, how the interact with other people, what vehicle they buy & operate, if they buy & shoot guns, have knives, what they cook, where they work, how they focus at school, what they watch, listen too or read.
People have absolutely free will to make many different kinds of lifestyle, educational, work related, social & economic choices while shopping, and vehicle control choices while riding bicycles, motor scooters, motorcycles, or driving cars, SUVs or Trucks or busses, or when piloting ships or aircraft.
Thus each person is responsible or accountable for the choices they make, for good or bad.
This is why I embraced a Stoic worldview. I will no longer allow others or situations or circumstance to cause me to react, and have began to distrust other people unless I have a good reason to trust them, to distrust governments, unless I have a good reason to trust them, and to question & be skeptical of any trends of ideologies of mankind, since many establish themselves against the Holy Word of God in the Bible & are thus guilty of idolatry or contradictory of what God instructs, materialistic, vain, selfish or self absorbed. This also why people harm other people & nature, for money or profits, often indirectly through the externalities of industrialization which provides the elite income earners plausible deniability that they use to self excuse their immoral & unethical business dealings.
Many politicians are similarly guilty of causing harm through bribery, corruption & what is accurately described as Crony Capitalism or a Plutocracy that Americas devoting into with increasing income inequality. Did I mention that many of these big industry companies are guilty of bribery with campaign contributions that result in elected officials that owe special favors, such that the citizens effectively loose representation gained by companies like Amazon.com that has 1151 lobbyists in Washington DC.
