Its amazing what they can fit in terms of circuitry inside Apple AirPods 3rd Gen or the latest Apple Watch 7 or the iPhone 13 Max & upcoming iPhone 14 running iOS 16. Consider the time sensitive initial investment into a chip fab, when that note currently state of the art & where its production output able to command a price premium from chips made therein sold to end users & integrators & device makers OEM & ODM respectively. Legacy nodes on mature hardware where the chip use case less power efficient & where longer chip life & temperature extreme tolerance more desirable - in automotive modules for example- where the car consumer expects to hardware to last 200,000 miles or 20+ years of nearly daily use cycling. In sharp contrast where a desktop expected to last 10 years, a tablet 5, a smartphone 3 & smartwatch or earbuds 2 years *before LiPo battery fade* sets in reducing runtime per charge significantly - or where thermal loads on smartphones used by UBER & LIFT drivers 100% charge will running graphics intensive mapping & ride hailing apps simultaneously along with social networking on Twitter & Facebook or similar // heavy duty industrial or commercial always hot always on 100% overcharged constantly smartphones typically burn up to a EOL or end of life state of non working e-waste within 6-18 months/ even with heat pipes & vapor chamber heat pipes moving heat from the SOC to the screen glass or case or frame of the smartphone // with is often wrapped in an insulating polymer drop protection case & with an added thermal mass screen glass protector // made of plastic or glass // they can get hot too, hot enough to cook the SOC or mainboard logic chips / easily hot enough to damage the lithium polymer battery so common in portable consumer electronics today in the 2022 era //
