Nuclear Fission Electricity Reactors & Decarbonization

An urgent global need to decarbonize energy by slowly transitioning away from natural gas, gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, coal, coke & other carbon or hydrocarbon fuel resources to renewables like biomass, bio-diesel, bio-gasoline, solar, wind, nuclear, geothermal, wave & energy storage technologies applied on the TW terawatt scale globally in combination with hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid & full electric capacitor or battery energy storage electric motor powered vehicles or EV's

Fully Electric Vehicles A Better Way Forward & Everyone Realizing It Now

Sure electric vehicles are not some kind of eco-friendly pipe dream. Making a Tesla Model 3 consumes a ton of resources. I think a bicycles with all weather heated water resistant clothing & gear like a helmet makes the most sense as a transportation model for 10 billion people. Perhaps an E-Bike or fully enclosed e-bike offering warming + AC + rain protection & better aerodynamics. Electric scooters with hot swappable batteries like Go-Goro by HTC founder in Taiwan (I love Taiwan, the ROC)- & electric vehicles of all different scales, from my 23lb Ninebot Segway MiniPro OG 2018 that still works great with its original battery to the most exotic electric supercar by Koenigsegg Automotive, even today there is an EV for most buyers with hundreds of miles or kilometers of range per charge based on 1990's Sony lithium ion battery flavors of NMC where lots of the cobalt replaced with nickel metal, the same metal Toyota/ Panasonic mixes with Lanthanum in Toyota Prius or similar hybrid synergy drive models sold by the million worldwide by the aforementioned superlative Japanese automaker :)

Reducing Air Pollution Urgent Public Health Issue Worldwide

Air Pollution Sickens & Kills People with Preventable Diseases, Brain Damage & Worse. An undeniable medical scientific fact that air pollutants common from burning carbon fuels & hydrocarbon fuels sickens people with a range of different diseases & disorders like asthma, lung cancer, brain cell diseases, kidney disease, liver failure & worse. Air pollution thereby increases healthcare costs & sickens, harms & hurts people, including the children of people who profit from selling fuels that produce air pollution when they are burned.

Restaurants Phasing Out Natural Gas Stoves

A lot of restaurants are going fully electric in the kitchen since the cooks have been getting sicker faster from breathing the exhaust fumes of natural gas stoves all day. Its not the CO2 & H20 created by burning natural gas, its the CO & the Radon 222 present in natural gas that upon constant occupational exposure for 8+ hours per shift end up having a potent toxic effect on the chef or cook's lungs & body. Pyrolytic & aerosolizes food components from high cooking temperatures, like smoking cooking oil are also irritating to eyes & nose & lung tissue, possibly mutagenic or carcinogenic depending on which compound. Some of those delicious char flavors produced by cooking over coals, yea, sadly air pollution happens to be made by the burning of the coals & burning of the foods, especially overheated or burned carbs, fats & proteins- they are dirty burning as fuels or energetic substances of food & make really nasty air pollutants that are not good to breath, even though they taste & smell great potentially, the reason smoked foods are so tasty etc

Burning Coal even Clean Coal very Toxic Emission & Lots of Emissions too

Coal really cheap as a fuel, dig up the mountain & burn it. A whole rail car of coal might only cost $100 vs $5000 for petroleum & $20,000 for hydrogen of the same energetic content. Coal power also release a lot of naturally occurring radioactive elements in the fly ash emissions as metal oxides or radioactive ceramic ashes or grey soot fluffy ash that easily blown around in the air where it then gets rained on & ends up contaminating the areas for miles arounds coal power plants. Coal really illustrates the high healthcare costs from air pollution associated with cheap carbon energy fuel prices, better than anything else. Heavy bunker oil & diesel fuel are not far behind.

VW Killed Diesel & I Am Sad About It

Did I mention that I love Diesel engine technology since it was originally designed to run on peanut oil ? Compression ignition engine are more efficient & longer lasting too, which is why most commercial vehicles are turbo diesel! Diesel fuel also contains more energy than gasoline & there is a few different much cleaner burning fuels that work in Diesel engines as drop in fuel replacements called DME & biodiesel blends & hydro-diesel. Using those fuels in your diesel engine will make your engine oil last longer, give your more torque & power & reduce air pollution emitted at the same time :) I really want a turbo diesel motorcycle with a small air cooled oil cooled engine! - that can run on DME or veggie oil or waste cooking oil or B100 biodiesel // Since the bike will not be used as a daily driver for much of the cold year, having a vehicle that can sit without its batteries going bad as great option for powersport vehicles. Diesel fuel also has a very long 10 year shelf life when a little cetane fuel stabilizer added to the tank. Diesel engines are amazing because they squeeze the fuel to vapor compression ignite it & have a long stroke to extract more of the combustion engine, are slower spinning & make way more torque sooner more like an electric motor & pair really nicely with a crank mounted integrated motor generator combined alternator starter EV assist integral motor assist regeneration brake energy capture VGT setup in diesel electric hybrid vehicles.

H2 burned with O2 = Water Emissions

Even clean burning fuels like methane & propane sadly produce a trace component of their exhaust as a mixture of air pollutants in all but the most perfect combustion processes, except where hydrogen burning with oxygen to make H20 or water directly in some of the best rocket engines every made with the best ISP or specific impulse or runtime or operating life //

Tailpipe Funk // Etc

Acid Rain from NOX & SOX causing corrosion of masonry, metals, concrete, rebar, bridges, roadways, building, & making lakes, streams, rivers & other bodies of water acidic which is toxic to aquatic wildlife like fish & frogs.

PM or Particulate Matter soot & smoke, tiny particles like PM 2.5 that get lodged into the tiny air sacs of the lungs where they create COPD & similar scar tissue formation that reduces gas exchange efficiency in the human lungs.

CO or Carbon Monoxide causes brain damage by displacing oxygen from red blood cells that would otherwise be carrying O2 or oxygen to the cells of the body & brain in particular.

HC or Hydrocarbon fumes that some people huff to get high, they cause brain & kidney damage when inhaled into the human lung tissue.

Turbo Diesel School Bus Driver

Yes, pending a few DOL tests & a little more practice I am almost a School Bus Driver. All of the buses in our transportation system are exception cummins turbo diesel into 6 speed amazing high quality long lasting Allison transmissions, even they struggle to move a bus full of children & gear up steep hills at modest speeds like 40 mph. Amazing that such a powerful engine technology struggles to go fast up hills, but loaded Class 8 trucks also struggle to go full speed limit on mountain passes for the same reasons. Do you know what the 0-100 KM or 0-60 MPH time is for a large heavy commercial vehicle, you would laugh if I told you, it can take 30 seconds to a minute. The original diesel Hummer from American General cannot even go 60 mph or 100 kmph // the later hummers were smaller lighter & faster & more narrow & made by GM or General Motors. One of the reasons I agreed to become a school bus driver other than the pay increase per hour worked, that I get to drive a turbo-diesel vehicle. All of my personal vehicles are either fully electric or gasoline or hybrid electric. My desire for a diesel vehicle tempered by lack of access to a quality model made by Toyota in America, they sell the ones I really want in other countries & I can only import one thats 25 years old & then support sucks- what a joke. The Prius II & III are really solid, as is our Yamaha MT03 & Honda PCX // sure they have small light gasoline engines & are really fuel efficient but thats not nearly as cool as a VW TDI, just more reliable in terms of net real world execution by Toyota, Honda & Yamaha vs VW, especially in terms of long lasting high quality, durable & endurance // To get a really good long lasting diesel turbo means a big fuel thirsty truck, much larger than anything I can justify operating as my daily driver or grocery getter //

Pick Your Vehicle Poison

There is something for everyone. If you like TDI you can buy a used VW model. If you like electric you can get a cheap used Nissan Leaf. If you like hybrid, you can get a used Toyota Prius- there are many other EV, HEV & PHEV models too, & even some turbo gasoline models that are great like the GR Yaris or Camry SE with that wondrous 8 speed that Scotty Kilmer extolls on YouTube! I personally also really like the Prius Prime & would buy one right now if I had the funding for a new car // sadly I am saving to buy a house / land / home & boy are they expensive near Issaquah, Wa, USA where I currently live & work & where Meg also works & where my widowed sister & disabled mother also live // all my friends // its a rub - even our apartment is $3k per month //

Lower Total Cost Wisdom

With vehicles, not just the price upfront or capital cost, think about the ongoing operating costs, fuel & maintenance & repairs related to reliability (Toyota vs BMW at high mileage or older)/ I think frugal in terms of CPM or cost per mile & use Metromile for pay per mile car insurance, Geico had the best insurance deals for the scooter & motorcycle // in WA you must have insurance for motorcycle now // car insurance been required for a long time.

Low Cost Per Mile Frugality Wise

How much do you want to pay to go A to B ? Have you ever heard of the Magical Persian Carpet analogy ? If you could use a magical carpet to fly around the world for free, where would you go & why ? Go behind the vehicle to thinking about the journey & the trip, like life, continuous while your still alive // consider where you are going with your life, why you choose to go different places & how your choosing to get there on foot, on a bicycle, on a scooter or motorcycle, in a car or truck or bus or train or airplane or boat or ship. Often there are many ways including ride hailing an UBER or a Lyft // your mileage may vary :P Your the most important nut to tighten, so think safe & smooth & happy travels!

Nuclear Reactor Electricity

All that car chatter might have you wonder, but electricity important for building, HVAC, appliance like fridges & wifi routers & washing machines & hot water & even the blower motors in natural gas furnaces & stoves & ovens. Electricity super important for internet, e-commerce & online meetings & online school & online news & information & entertainment streaming & more. Without electricity modern life would be impossible. This makes base load capacity generation really important & nuclear reactors have thousands of man years of real world operating 24/7 with only a few household name accidents like 3 mile island, Chernobyl & Fukushima. Compare that with oil spills, acid rain & air pollutions effects on public health & healthcare costs! Coal power emissions are the leading source of radiative material exposure. Nuclear reactors have the most tightly controlled waste of any power generating system, period. Even making solar PV panels relatively toxic because of the very high temperatures required to smelt crystal of silicon on that scale.

IFR reactors can burn spent nuclear fuel waste from older reactors common around the world.

Nuclear fuel elements can be reprocessed or recycled nearly endlessly

Breeding nuclear fuel elements means more elements are produced then consumed & given the relative global abundance of thorium 5X greater than uranium means lower fuel prices too, once its irradiated or enriched by neutron bombardment to make it convert from fertile to fissile or able to make a sustained nuclear chain reaction in a commercial nuclear power reactor. We have been burning carbon as a people for thousands of years while Nuclear Energy relative new since July 15 1945, sadly we made nuclear weapons first, before nuclear power reactors/

Humans Have an Evil Thread Inside

Thats telling about people, with are sinister sinful threads as imperfect flawed individuals capable of nothing perfectly straight or without flaw - even the best high quality lowest error & lowest flaw object ever made, a fused quartz sphere made by NASA for a gravity probe, contains flaw. Thats why nuclear reactors are so expensive.

Nuclear Fuel Cycles a Complicated Isotope Mess

Because of how dangerous, the regulations are thick at all levels & the science complicates the fuel cycle given all the different elements made by fissioning larger elements, including liquids & gases & solids, isotope all kinds, some of which are neutron poisons like Xenon with very large neutron capture cross sections that slow down nuclear reactor chain reactions & must be removed from the rods. Even making the rod cladding out of expensive iridium alloys not enough to keep neutron & gamma damage from corroding the cladding eventually. Boy is iridium corrosion resistant too, used in the best NGK iridium tipped spark plugs that I put in every engine I own // they last a lot longer than traditional spark plugs because of the noble corrosion resistant properties of the tiny iridium alloy button in the electrode tip of the IRK spark plugs // Not just the cladding, even the pipes for heat exchange in the core of a reactor have to be made of high nickel exotic steel alloys electron beam welded & with the utmost of QA:QC at every step. This makes small MMR reactors & SMR reactors hard to develop at a commercial feasible price points (Yea NRC, streamline that stuff please)
