GPS Function Abused
For UBER or LIFT or other DOOR DASH or similar drivers who are constantly going to different individual addresses or other delivery drivers, sure, GPS makes sense. For other people, using their phone for navigation might make sense to find a new address without wasting time or gasoline or diesel in a private vehicle when someone has never taken that route. For many people however they constantly use the GPS function even when they are perfectly able to navigate without it to their destination. I call this the digital blanket snuggle or Snuggie that indicates a close emotional personal dependence bond between the GPS user & the device displaying the onscreen route instructions. Trust me, if there is one thing that would make me more comfortable as a new School Bus driver, especially as a super sub driving all the routes, that would be navigation of all the turns & stops & loading order at the different schools.

From a normal person like me operating a YouTube channel to populating a blog posting or social media posting with a custom image, people use their smartphones as still cameras, as panoramic cameras, as portrait cameras for selfies, as digital video cameras & the phones CMOS unit & lens, of which their are now typically 2 or more, wide & telephoto, adding two small fixed focus unit cameras with OIS lenses less complicated than a linear mechanical zoom lens with articulating optical elements that move forward & backward along the optical axis. OIS use of small induction coils & magnets to perform dynamic image stabilization on tweaks a lens element in a planar direction to correct for vibration from the users hand & arm movements, optical image stabilization usually only applied to the primary camera. Some devices use a prism & have mechanical optical 10x zoom inside like my older Pentax W90 waterproof action camera & Meg's antique Casio Xslim folding feature phone with 10x Carl Zeiss optics // These cameras everywhere create an immense data stream of continual image & video uploading over high speed data networks to different online platforms & cloud computers & servers then subsequently accessed by others who use compute devices to look at what other people have posted. News papers are made using the internet, as are TV channels now. Even landlines are often VOIP or voice over IP, seamlessly integrated with bundled Comcast Xfinity Cable TV, High Speed Internet & Voice package bundles that can cost up to $300 per month // Lets not forget what people are shelling out to have the latest flagship smartphone on AT&T or Verizon Wireless services, over $100 per month + $1000+ for the device, often financed in a lease agreement that requires the user to return the phone to the carrier for a trade in credit such that the user never actually owns the phone & only paying to use it // over a lifetime this can amount to many tens of thousands of dollars.
Psychological & Social Degradation
Far from clear or scientific, early evidence increasingly showing that the overuse of smartphones, especially by younger children, adolescents, teenagers & young adults, can have dramatically negative psychological & emotion tolls or damages to their developing psyche or mind or mindset & especially their self image & related ideas of what they are like compared with their peers or other icons or idols or heroes or celebrities they admire online or people they follow on social networking platforms like Facebook or Instagram or Tic-Tock or Twitter -- sometimes when Meg & I go out of a restaurant, we will see a family, mom & dad & two or three children, all starring into their phones & no one talking to each other. Impossible that everyone an introverted shy type, this must be because the phones are offering up a dopamine hit thats a powerful as strong illegal narcotics in terms of its effects on the nucleus accumbent reward system of the human brain for which there is a small amount of building evidence about obsessive compulsive use of smartphones, digital brain overload & additive behaviors related to the overuse of technology & lack of real world social interactions, an issue made worse by COVID19 stay at home & school & work closures required online video conferencing & no first person interactions for more than a year to limit the spread of COVID19 & its many variants.
Thumb Joint Damage
I am not kidding that children as young as 6 years old are going to doctors because of the overuse of their thumbs on tablet & smartphone screens, often playing video games for hours on end. Goofing off on social media apps & platforms that increase depression & anxiety too. Its too much of the wrong things at the wrong times for people who could not possibly know any better if they do not have good parents teaching them edifying facts about healthy lifestyle & setting good nutritional examples of what to eat & how much a healthy serving of food consists of.

Social media causing increases in suicidal thoughts amongst teenage girls who compare themselves actively & constantly to models who post personal body images of their sculpted diet tuned exercise enhanced genetically lucky bodies in a way that shames & embarrasses girls who have issues with body mass from eating foods their family prepares, unwittingly consuming excess carbohydrates & developing an increasing BMI or body fat that distorts their body in ways they are embarrassed about & yet have limited agency in causing since they are probably not doing the grocery shopping or food prep & not the one setting an example, as the parents are doing with diet culture & serving size confusion thats often common in industrialized westernized countries in Western Europe, Australia & North America & significantly less common in developing countries, Eastern Europe & many parts of Asia where an overly large food serving considered glutenous & excessive & selfish due to either capital monetary constraints associated with a limited food budget or where food produced using land the family controls using local agricultural technique, gardening & farming with a finite or constrained yield of carbohydrate, fat & protein calories.

Foods high in healthy mono-unsaturated & poly-unsaturated fats often cost a lot more per calorie than simple carbohydrate rich foods. Think nuts & seeds & fish vs bread & rice & pasta. Healthy proteins like grass fed organic beef or free range organic chicken are often vastly more expensive than questionable synthetic hormone & artificial dye & other bizarre chemicals or modifications of unknown impacts on health or wellness & likely issues with toxicity to pesticides, herbicides & fungicides applied to non-organic modern industrial cheaper foods & processed junk foods & ultra processed foods, which have longer shelf lives because of excluding dietary fiber from the products & not including healthy fats that can spoil more quickly that toxic trans fats or saturated fats.
Digital Dementia Diet Problems
Blasted with junk foods ads that promote the consumption of unhealthy sugar rich excess salt & low health fat or fiber content foods that are nutritionally imbalanced because they were designed to maximize shelf life & profitability while little if any processed or ultra processed food design effort aimed at improving consumer or public health of people that consume those products as foods. Its a negative feedback loop of internet induced brain damage, digital overload, time wasted, no time to cook or prep foods from scratch or grocery shop for whole natural ingredients, fast food & processed junk foods the faster cheaper option thats convenient & for which much advertising dollars are spent promoting on smartphones & tablets & TV screens often abused by people in Alpha states where they absorb the messages easily & where those messages turn into unhealthy lifestyle choices about food later on.
