Turn your irrational fears about nuclear upside down into a renaissance for Nuclear Energy by looking at the facts to inform your opinions!
Safer than wind or solar or natural gas or oil or coal, nuclear has the safest history with more than 18,000 hours of combined reactor experience & only a few major accidents, while only Chernobyl caused actual deaths because of the poor design of the plant & failure of government to evaluate people nearby after the reactor meltdown when they attempted to due an IFR automatic cool off to mirror the American innovation in a reactor that was never meant to operate this way, resulting in a coolant flow cutoff that enabled the core to overheat & melt down.
Yeah, its hard to imagine nuclear waste being safe, but its never killed anyone! Nuclear energy sector carefully contains its waste in well made containers & the most advance storage methods ever made!
Fukushima got a lot of bad press, but in reality, most people were harmed by relocation & evacuation rather than radiation exposure. Taking a long distance aircraft flight exposes your body to more radiation than what the average affected Japanese person was exposed to as a result of an radioactivity released into the local environments near Fukushima. See sea water & water in general are great absorbers of radioactive particle emissions. There is already a lot of natural thorium & uranium in sea water for example. Water used in nuclear reactors because its made of hydrogen & oxygen with strong boding & holds up under exposure to radioactivity well.
If you have ever seen a nuclear reactor startup turn the primary pool a glowing blue color (YouTube Nuclear Reactor Startup Video) - this characteristic glow a commercial nuclear power reactor cores & research reactor cores exciting for people to see, even if just in a google image or YouTube video.
Speaking of videos that get me people straight with nuclear energy facts, check this one out on Kite Media (Click this Link https://www.kiteandkeymedia.com/videos/nuclear-energy-power-safety-carbon-emissions-clean-pros-cons-renewable-history-benefits/)
I have been casually & continually promoting nuclear energy on twitter for a while, but other government agencies in America do a better job than I do :) I learned about nuclear energy reactors in early 2003 during early college education experience that allowed me to understand the energy density of nuclear fuel at an deeper meaningful level, after taking chemistry & physics classes to expand my understanding of energy units & density & related concepts.
During environmental science & technology research to get my BS of Environmental Science I started studying the toxicology of fossil fuel emissions, from coal power plants to the tailpipes of common cars & motorcycles used daily around the world, to natural gas combustion in stoves & water heaters & air heating furnaces, the hidden danger not the CO2 changing climate, its the radon 222 in the natural gas that causes lung cancer via Po 210 exposure & then lead Pb dust exposure. Certainly CO or carbon monoxide exposure from people running backup generators indoors during power outages also shows that combustion not a clean or safe way to make energy, its just works well & very practical with gasoline & diesel powered piston engines, kerosene & Jet-A fueled jet engines & rocket engines that combust fuels with liquified oxygen // Taking all of this together, Nuclear Safer because its waste products are tightly contained & managed carefully with layers of regulations that make it more complicated to implement a nuclear energy reactor, taking longer & costing more as a consequence of the high engineering bars & documentation & other aerospace like cost increasing requirements!
Take a look at the Oak Ridge MSR reactor experiment (https://youtu.be/tyDbq5HRs0o) Some serious industrial applied alloy parts & heavy construction innovations. Super cool applied technology! Nuclear the most science intensive way to make energy without combustion, essential to decarbonizing energy worldwide! Combustion a dead end not only because the fuels are finite, but because air pollution toxic to human brain & lung cells //
