Electronic Stability Control FTW

Most contemporary vehicles include ESC & TC, or electronic stability & traction control technologies that help drivers maintain control of their vehicles! ESC helped to reduce road fatalities significantly over the years.

Some Electronics Enhance Safety

Electronic stability control & traction control are examples of electric digital computerization technology that enhance traffic safety by enabling more drivers to maintain safe control of their vehicle in more situations more of the time.

Put down your smartphone, using it while driving is now a primary offense! Playing with a smartphone while driving is reckless like driving while intoxicated!

ECU + More

The benefits of the computerization of vehicle platforms include electronic engine management, fuel injection control, ignition timing control, valve control, emissions controls, fuel air mixture control, idle stabilization & other advanced engine management techniques that are similarly realized through electronic computerization.

Smaller Computers

A modern vehicle made after the 2003 model year can contain more than 70 embedded digital computer modules. This small micro-computers are used for ABS or advanced braking system control, airbag deployment control, onboard diagnostics or OBD functionality & wireless keyfob access, security, remote start, backup cameras * birds eye view camera systems.

ADAS
Increasing electrification & computerization enables automakers to provide customers with advanced driver safety assist technologies like lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, collision prevention system function & many other semi-automatic self driving functions that are combining to produce increasing levels of vehicle autonomy.

Automatic Tranny + Cruise Control

Cruise control & automatic transmissions were some of the earliest vehicle robot technologies that automated previous human control activities of the throttle while cruising & shifting of the gears respectively.

Robotic Intersections

Traffic lights, or traffic signal controls are totally automated. In South Africa electronic traffic signal controls are referred to as "robots" : Cities & municipalities are enhancing existing intersection controllers with increasingly sophisticated artificial intelligence technologies that reduce traffic congestion by improve throughput at the intersect with intelligent light switching.

V2V & V2G

In the future vehicles will talk to intersections, road ways, on and off ramps, highways, freeways and other vehicles using V2V or vehicle to vehicle & V2G or vehicle to grid communication protocols. Traffic congestion can be reduced by 400% or more with self-driving vehicles & intelligent communication between vehicles & infrastructure. Experts expect connected electric * plug-in hybrid self driving vehicles & infrastructure to dominate the roadways of America by the early 2030's! More miles, faster, with less pollution & enhanced safety! The extensive benefits of self driving cars vastly exceed the costs of the challenges of commercializing the technology.

Electric Starting + Alternator Generator

The electrification of vehicles started a long time ago with electric engine starting via the utilization of a cranking battery that was able to turn the starter electric motor to crank start the engine. Prior to electric start, hand crank starters were dangerous, often harming their users.

Similarly the alternator or stator/ generation would take power from the engine & keep the starting battery fully charged. This is the main reason that lead acid batteries became the defacto standard for automotive batteries, as lead acid is one of the only rechargeable batteries that benefits from constant float charging at 13.26vdc in the case of a standard 12v car battery!

Gadget Cars

With 4G LTE built-in, sensor fusion galore, early autopilot functionality, fully electric drive & outrageous performance, the Model S was the first vehicle to become an electronic gadget, albeit an expensive one! The Model 3 will bring this tech into the hands of more normal people!

Fully Electric Future

Driving our leased 2013 Nissan Leaf S gave Meg, Papa Schwarz & I a taste of the future of transportation, namely fully electric! Just like most ovens, clothes dryers, computers, light bulbs, fully electric means you can power the car from wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, nuclear, natural gas and any other means of generating electricity at the requisite voltage, frequency & amperage!

Instant Torque

Electric motors are up to 90% efficient with electricity & can spin backward to generate power from motor during regen braking or regenerative braking, when coasting or going down a hill or coming to a stop. Our hybrid vehicles have electric motors that assist the gasoline engine at low RPM when the ICE engine is weak.

Electric motor make instant power, in awesome ways that make stop & go traffic a breeze! Burning rubber, the instant torque from EV motors can burn rubber as that torque is translated through the tires to the road! Even affordable EV's like the 2018 Nissan Leaf are torque monsters off the line: giving drivers that linear motor roller coaster boost acceleration feeling that puts smiles on the faces of anyone who has ridden in a Tesla Model S accelerating in ludicrous mode! Special Thanks to Michelle R for giving me such a demo!

Even Limited Lithium Works

Even the limited lithium ion batteries of today provide an energy storage solution that gives the Tesla Model S P100D its gusto! Over time new battery technology will make future electric vehicles even more awesome. BMW is claiming the release of a 2025 model year i5 EV with more than 435 miles of single charge range. Porsche already developed & produces a solar powered 350kw super high speed L4 charger solution that can add hundreds of miles of range in 10 minutes of charging!
